Panellists

Peter Cwetanski - Research Physicist

Audemars Piguet

Peter earned a degree in Experimental Physics from the Universität Heidelberg in Germany. During a year abroad at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory in California he discovered his passion for particle detectors. He moved to CERN in 2000, first as a doctoral student and later as a CERN Fellow. He received his doctorate degree in 2006 from the University of Helsinki, and continued to accompany the ATLAS TRT through its integration and commissioning phase, eventually working on data quality monitoring.

In 2010 left the world of academic research in order to pursue opportunities in industry. He worked for 5 years as a System Validation Engineer at Kudelski Nagravision, before moving on once more to his current engagement in the watch industry. Besides studying physical processes in mechanical watches he is trying to introduce today’s technological achievements from robotics, data science, machine learning or artificial intelligence into a rather traditional environment.

Olivier Denis - Head of Sales & Marketing

Sedect SA

Olivier earned a Master in Science of Industrial Engineer in Mechanics from HELHa in Belgium. After graduating, he travelled in the USA and the Netherlands to improve his language skills. His first job was as Quality Engineer at Caterpillar. After a few years, he moved to Aisin (a Toyota company) as Sales Engineer working for Renault, Volvo, Toyota and other car manufacturers and where he was amongst other things working on water & oil pump development, quality assurance, suppliers quality audit,… In 2003, he was proposed a limited duration contract at CERN linked to the construction of the LHC. His main task at CERN was Contract Management (calls for tender, deliveries of the components to CERN). Based on the experience he acquired, he decided to reorientate his career and increase the commercial aspects of his role. He is now Head of Sales & Marketing at Sedect, a company active in the airport industry and more specifically in  security.

Cyril Kharoua - CEO Head of Sales & Marketing

DAES

Cyril, a mechanical engineer graduated from the "Institut Polytechnique de Grenoble". He started his career as an R&D engineer in synthetic diamond manufacture in Ireland. Subsequently he joined the CERN fellowship program and spent two and a half years designing the 4 MegaWatt targets for the EURISOL project, where he developed his skills in numerical modelling and high radiation material science. Cyril joined the ESS project (Sweden) in 2009, where he participated in the design of the 5MW target. After 4 years working on this great project Cyril decided to launch his own company. Along with his two business partners, he created an SME specialised in numerical simulation, working for a wide range of industries in Europe, from the Swiss watch industry to large scale facilities such as ITER, also including more conventional sectors (energy, transport...).

Massimiliano Pindo - France Sales Manager - Isolation Valves

Emerson Process Management

Massimiliano leads the Emerson Sales Team in charge of developing the isolation valves business in France. As site manager, he also leads the steering committee of the sales office nearby Paris (~40 people, covering all company functions).

Before joining Emerson, he held different positions with DuPont and, previously, STMicroelectronics. He obtained his MBA from the Sorbonne Business School in 2010, where he now teaches Strategy and Organization. He got his PhD in Physics from the University of Milan in 1996. He did his PhD thesis at CERN, working on the development of silicon pixel detectors for the DELPHI experiment at LEP. He was lucky enough to get involved with CERN as early as 1990 as Summer Student.

Gemma Potestio -Machinery and package engineer

Maire Tecnimont

Gemma graduated at the Bologna University in Energy and Nuclear engineering in 2013, subsequently she graduated in a second level master's degree with the collaboration of Eni (Italian Oil company) in Oil and Gas Plant Design in 2014.

From 2014 to 2018 Gemma was Rotating Equipment and Package engineer in Eni and  was involved in the design phase of most of Eni’s offshore platforms. She was also involved in validation activity for new gas turbines and for the Company's standard.

From 2018 to 2019 Gemma had the position of Package engineer in Maire Tecnimont group (Italian EPC contractor ) for the construction phase of big refinery in Azerbaijan.

Hannah Rana- Former Spacecraft Thermal Engineer

European Space Agency

Hannah conducted research at CERN whilst completing her Masters in Engineering at Loughborough University, UK. Her project consisted of investigating transport phenomena physics in electropolishing of RF accelerating cavities, in the Vacuums, Surfaces and Coatings group in TE. After graduating, she entered the Aerospace industry as a Graduate Thermal Engineer at ESTEC - ESA's main technology site in the Netherlands. Amongst other projects, Hannah worked on the upcoming Russian-European lunar lander, Sentinel-3, and an ESA-NASA Mars Sample Return concept design mission. She is now working on a spacecraft cryogenics project based in Oxford, which is partnered with Honeywell Aerospace.
