Description
The day before the LHC produced its first 13 TeV collisions, initiating the Run 2 data taking phase,  ATLAS published its analysis of the full 8 TeV dataset in search for VV resonances in the all-hadronic final state. A 3.4 sigma excess (2.5 global) around 2 TeV was observed, found to be compatible with a 1.3 sigma excess in the corresponding CMS analysis published the previous year. The timing of the publication, together with the compatibility between experiments, generated a wave of excitement over what the 13 TeV dataset would bring. In this talk, we will cover the full CMS search program for VV resonances in the all-hadronic final state; where we went after the “bump” and the direction we are taking VV analyses in Run 3. As one of the main drivers in the development of novel jet substructure techniques in CMS, we will in addition look at analysis driven progresses made in boosted jet tagging.
