Getting to EPFL

How to reach the Cubotron at EPFL

The school will be held at the Cubotron building, which hosts the Physics Institute of the EPFL. The building is located on the neighbouring Université de Lausanne (UNIL) campus. Both the EPFL and Unil campus are located approximately 5km from the center of Lausanne, in a city called Ecublens.

Check out this link to the Cubotron on Google Maps.

From the airport

From the Swiss airports, you can easily arrive in Lausanne by train (the train station is inside the airport in Geneva and Zurich). A one-way ticket from the Geneva Airport to Lausanne costs 27.- and the trip lasts about 45 minutes (plus public transport from either Renens or Lausanne centre).

A train trip from the Zurich airport to EPFL takes about 2h45 including public transport, and costs about 80 CHF.

You can check the train timetables on the CFF website.

From the Lausanne train station

The M1 metro line connects the centre of Lausanne to the EPFL/Unil campus. Metro timetables are available here.

  • Take the M2 line of metro station, located just in front of the train station, in direction "Croisette".

  • Get off on the next station (Lausanne-Flon). There, transfer to line M1, departures are every 10 minutes. Get off at the stop called Unil-Sorge.

From the Renens train station

Some of the trains running between Geneva and Lausanne stop in a city called Renens. The Renens train station is the last stop of the M1 metro, and it is therefore convenient to get off there to continue your trip to EPFL.

By car

Follow the direction Lausanne-Sud. Take the exit EPFL-Ecublens, and turn right at the second roundabout towards the Sorge area.

Cubotron is the building on your right at the end of the road. You will recognize it easily by comparing with the picture below.

Paying parkings are available under the Rolex Learning Center, under the Esplanade, and along Avenue Piccard. Green and yellow parking spots are reserved for EPFL employees and collaborators. Check out this link for the parking positions.
