Description

Since 2008 the CMS silicon pixel detector has been part of the CMS detector and
participated in the LHC data taking. The pixel detector is essential for the
measurement of charged tracks generated in LHC collisions. It is also used to
separate the different Primary Vertices and measure the 3D position of the
secondary vertices. Without this detector the measurement of many decays (e.g.
Higgs to 4 leptons) would not have been possible.
In the talk the detector design, its construction and the performance will be
presented. Also some description of the upcoming detector upgrade for the High
Luminosity LHC (starting in 2026) will be given.
