Kilian and Sam have joined Sudhir as HSF training coordinators. Welcome!

Need to get all of their names onto the HSF Training page (https://hepsoftwarefoundation.org/workinggroups/training.html).

Upcoming Training Events

CSU Summer Student Computing/Analysis Training 2020 (21-20 January)

  • Any HSF input required?

    • Probably not...

  • CSU = California state university

Analysis Preservation Bootcamp (17-19 February)

  • We assume that this is all in hand

Software Carpentries @CERN v2.0 (24-27 March)

  • Room booked (need to shift one clash?) -> James

  • Software Carpentry tutors -> Sudhir needs to do this, David will contact him

    • First day for real basics, unix shell; Python bootstrapping...

    • Second day Python

    • Third day git, including PRs and conflict resolution

    • Fourth day, HEP specific topics

  • Posters

    • Graeme can do this...

  • Announcements (via experiments)

    • Need to wait for SC confirmation

    • ATLAS visibility was an issue

      • Adam to discuss with ATLAS CC

    • Reach out to smaller groups (posters worked?)

    • Make sure this is targeted at the right people (beginners)

  • Registration

    • Allow people on the previous waiting list to get priority (or do they now know this stuff?)

  • Coffee breaks

    • Graeme will ask Pere if SFT can fund the coffee (or charge 10CHF for registration)

    • Borrow LHCb’s coffee machines?

  • Lacked tutors to help - need to get more people

Alpaka Parallel Programming - Taster Session and Basic Tutorial

  • Co-organised with openlab

  • Most planning needed for first ”general” day

  • Later sessions for expert groups, we have 3 groups confirmed: SFT team for simulation, CMS with Patatrack, ATLAS with Acts tracking

    • 2 slots offered to LHCb, ALICE - not sure if they will use them

General Issues and Planning

  • Contact Sudhir’s student to get new events into HSF lists (and remind people how to do it -> perhaps put instructions on the web)

    • Graeme to look at this

  • Graeme was asked to join the scientific organising team for ESCAPE summer school at LAAP in Annecy, June 2020

    • Generic topics can be shared with Dark Matter and Astroparticle communities

    • Not sure if they will cover C++ again
