Matters arising
- SPSQC still to check event building in parallel (Verena et al.)
- Dates still needed for dry runs starting with first vertical slice (Verena et al.)
- Set of actions still outstanding (Kevin et al.), voltage program generation now parameterised and about to be released
- Bren to contact PhB, GH, FG again on cavity control parameter list, now blocking progress.
Dry runs and test progress news (Kevin/Verena)
- Outcome of last generation DR being included
- Today new DR on ALPS to include the multi-turn application
- In 2 weeks FGC tests (30 March)
- DSO tests for SPS and scope, cut in two phases: close on 15th September (Tues), with DSO tests on 16-18th. As currently validated only close machine on 18th, DSOs themselves decide the scope. From EIS we need them to be seen 'safe' or 'unsafe'. For MKE the problem is that they should be HV on, which is not available at this stage of the planning. 26-30 October will be for LHC which will require the kickers. Stephane, James and Etienne to explicitly check for ABT systems.
Impact of new MKP-L serigraphy on beam stability (Carlo)
- MKP will heat too much from 2022 with the operational scenarios developed
- Serigraphy long proposed as solution, to reduce the heating, design already prepared to gain factor 10
- Adds 12 MHz peak (already a line in existing spectrum), while reducing the broad band
- Impedance models developed and used in pyHeadTail, where confident in the simulation results
- Concern about the horizontal stability with new observations in Run2, special attention to this
- Predict essential similar behaviour for H instability growth rate vs Q'
- In V observe violent instability at 2.3e11, already present without MKP serigraphy, slight but clear improvement with serigraphy
- For 0.1 and 0.16 voltage ratio, see slight but clear improvement in the instability threshold
- In summary expect improvements in V and L, with no change H. Changes are OK for IWG.
- Teams involved are thanked for the efforts to get these results: we go ahead with the upgrade.
SIS interlocking for MKP/TT10 interlocking (Eric)
- Document prepared including the configuration beam destinations
- Modifications to SIS summarised with new inclusion of TT10 line elements
- SIS behaviour with BIC injection chain, highlighting what is new/changed
- New TT10 SIS tree goes to TT2-TT10 master BIC as well as PS external condition to suppress beam from PS
- MKP pulse permit described, use the existing veto input to the MKP kickers to stop them pulsing via SIS
- Injection use cases all described, including for tests and of where beam arrives on TBSJ for different configs.
- One new cable needed from MKP to the TT10 slave BIC (Ivan to request to EN/EL), and also update the specification.
- Question whether the SW permit is given early enough to the BIC for it to react? To be tested, but in principle it should be OK as only monitoring slow stuff.
- A few remarks made, will now put into EDMS 'for comments', Eric with Lucie.
SPS beamline installation status (Antonio)
- vacuum sector opening as planned, almost complete
- Sector closing is taking longer than planned, some issues now overflowing to other sectors
- In next 2 weeks 12 sectors to close, too much, need to reschedule and check the impact
- LSS1, delays caused by problems in reinstalling one SSS and then knock-on effects
- LSS2, some delays from the 3rd cabling campaign
- LSS3, some delays from RF activities, but work with the cavities is progressing well. Issue with moving of powered vacuum
- LSS4, on track, WS now OK
- LSS5, to start
- LSS6, some delays due to Crab Cavity activities, which are delayed another month (now 3 months total - to follow up at LS2C maybe - Bren+Malika)
- Overall many of the late sectors are mechanically closed, pump-down pending
- New issue discovered with the vertical offset of the injection chamber fixed by MSI, apertures checked and should be OK, but will be misaligned in a non-coherent way, and should be fixed latest LS3. to document and distribute for comments (Francesco, Chiara)
- Will make make now a full review of the sectors, to replan
BLM ISTs (Christos)
- Many changes to the system, improved and expanded testing procedure
- Tests already fully in progress, now doing surface verification
- Phase of full check in tunnel with system powered, 2-3 days per access point (LSS and arcs, and TL), with 10 or 12 separate points to do
- Then full system test to commission the complete installation, 2 days per point.
- Dry runs will then test the BI and OP applications, already mostly complete in terms of functionality, still need the new names for the monitors
- For ISTs have 3 days total in July, but need a lot more, to be sorted out with ACE planning, will check even when no major changes made (since recabling, radiation, other works)
- Have some proposed dates, ACE and BI now need to develop the detailed planning (Antonio, Ewald) which should respect the known constraints while obviously has to retain some flexibility
- New TT2 BLMs to add in the SPS interlocking? No, maybe needs some further discussion (Verena et al.)
AOB
- Need to have the checklist of ISTs being finished, not yet existing as checklist but in MPP, ongoing. Kevin
- Question on whether to rename or add new logging variables? At present if equipment changes location make new variables....agree to keep this approach with new variables for BLM, BTVs! Johan
- COLDEX want to cool down at end of 2019 and want to run during scrubbing as announced during IEFC, need to discuss (Kevin).
