Description
Provision of high quality computing for LHC experiments is a necessary component of the success of the CERN physics programme. Since the on-site resources are limited, computing services have to be provided from outside CERN. This creates a new, previously unknown, aspect of contribution to high energy physics experiments: in addition to detector hardware, coupled software, and physics analysis, LHC experiment participants have to contribute also with massive computing hardware and coupled software. This leads to new challenges and new opportunities for physics groups, requiring additional resources but also opening cross-disciplinary channels. HEP groups in Nordic countries have chosen to join their efforts in order to increase efficiency of contribution to LHC computing. This talk summarizes achievements of the Nordic DataGrid Facility and related projects, and gives an outlook into near future.
