Anomalies of 1-form symmetries and consistent gauge groups

Abstract

 I will discuss anomalies of discrete 1-form symmetries in 6d and 8d supersymmetric theories, which can be interpreted as consistency conditions for gauge groups with non-trivial global structure. For 8d theories, I will further highlight the connection of these anomalies to arithmetic structures of F-theory compactifications.
