ABP-HSS Section meeting

Europe/Zurich

*News

Helmut and Stefano are excused.

NLBDWG resuming meetings tomorrow.

*Collimation

Board for new staff happened last week.  New fellow, this year earliest start is March 1st 2021.

*Injectors

Due to issues with the injection MADX optics PTC was used. Rogelio suggested to review this and stay with MADX optics for operational matters.

Multibunch application to be further developed next week.

PSB hardware commissioning on-going. Possibly few days delay.

*OMC

New website developed for a better documentation.

Presentation by Michael in last OMC meeting on the IOTA optics and resonance driving terms measurements.

*Riccardo, MAD-NG testing with HL-LHC matching

-Riccardo proposed a way to access MADX from MAD-NG as cpymad does, that is being implmented.

-MAD-NG is between 2-4 times slower than MADX for chromatic Twiss calculations.

-Hamiltonian slicing needs more slices in MAD-NG

-MAD-NG features powerful and easy tools for directly checking the physics.

-MAD-NG matching is in general more powerful and has more features than MADX, however the HL-LHC matching scripts were not translated to MAD-NG. This represents 14k lines of code.

-To access MAD-NG from python does not look easy due to the Luajit version (this was apparently reviewed after the meeting and possible solutions are being explored)

-Various ingredients missing in MAD-NG:  Beam-beam, N1 aperture calculation, Makethin, Normal Forms, (HL)-LHC masks, emit / IBS+SR, etc.

-Laurent clarified that single particle tracking issue found by Leon in FCC-ee of needing 25 times longer time was fixed.

*Tobias, Permanent (or voluntary) misalignments in MADX

A new feature is available in MADX to add permanent misalignments to elements.

Makethin should implement misalignments consistently (Helmut typically in charge of this).

Open questions:

-Should nodes also include permanent misalignment information? This is desired, specially for different sequences.

-Reference point for misalignment: start, middle, exit of magnet? Hopefully this could be flexible for compatibility with layout database or for apropiate choices depending on the  magnet case.

Next meeting in two weeks.
