F. Nguyen starts the discussion showing a series of comments on the need for linear polarisation, from specific users.

T. Schmidt says that some experiments would like to study phenomena associated to helicity switching.

As a conclusion of the polarisation poll: no explicit need for a linear polarisation is demanded by most users.

It's of great relevance to emphasise in any part of the forthcoming Conceptual Design Report that the XLS facility will provide circular polarisation as a default from the SASE line, and variable linear polarisation attainable by means of the Afterburner.

Wakefield studies stress the role of the undulator gap, especially operating in the Hard X-Ray regime.

T. Schmidt comments that working at not so short a gap and providing efficient Afterburner gain could demand for a cryogenic Apple-X.

Need to synchronise undulator and electron beam parameters between Z. Nergiz and N. Thompson, regarding the findings from wakefield studies.

As a result of these early "cold" (in the sense that the electron beam is not yet the product of a start-2-end work) studies on wakefield effects, no showstopper is found to assume a vacuum gap (i.e. what the electron beam sees) of 4.2 mm for the SCUs within the SASE line, for operations in the Soft X-Ray regime.

In order to achieve the D5.2 document delivered in time for EU upload:

  • a detailed schedule of intermediate deadlines is given;
  • sections, contributors and main editors are assigned.
