Abstract: In this talk I will review recent progress on the microstate counting for black holes in Anti-de Sitter spacetime. I will focus mainly on the gravitational part. After reviewing the known solutions, I will describe how to construct two classes of stationary BPS configurations in theories of four-dimensional supergravity with uplift to M-theory. In the second part of my talk I will discuss work in progress that investigates the existence of stable and metastable black hole bound states at finite chemical potentials in global AdS spacetime, in the probe approximation. Time permitting, I will finally discuss the relevance of these setups for describing glassy systems via holography.
