      • WLCG Token Transition Timeline document endorsement 5m
        Speaker: Simone Campana (CERN)

The document was circulated mid August to the MB list, asking for comments. There was no comment received. The document was consensually agreed by the WLCG Authorisation WG. The proposal is to endorse the document and therefore the new timeline for token transition

      • WLCG Workshop 2022 5m
        Speaker: Simone Campana (CERN)

The upcoming November WLCG and Rucio workshops recently opened for registration. Inheriting from previous events, there was in the form a fee mentioned for remote attendance. That is no longer the case.

The meeting is still primarily intended to be in person (and has fixed costs to cover), but given the remote access will be less than a full hybrid meeting, the remote fees have been removed from the registration forms. The organisers would still be interested to know the number of remote attendees, so please do still use the form if you have to connect remotely.

For those already registered, there is nothing to be changed.

      SW Liaison update 10m
      Speaker: Simone Campana (CERN)

We received 11 inputs from the community. The input was provided by people from several stakeholders, particularly HSF, SFT, WLCG sites, WLCG experiments, IRIS-HEP. The vast majority of the input proposes the extension of Liz and Graeme. One input favours a rotation with a few names as suggestions. The proposal is to extend Graeme and Liz until the end of 2023.

      LHCC outcomes 10m
      Speaker: Simone Campana (CERN)

The LHCC congratulates the sites and the experiments for the successful operations during LS2 and the restart of Run-3. The LHCC is confident that the WLCG infrastructure will be able to support the Run-3 activities of the next years.

The level of hardware resources that will be available is a concern. The experiments are now using the Russian resources efficiently but opportunistically (particularly, the storage is used tactically) and there is no guarantee those resources will be available at all in the short term. The LHCC supports the strategy of the experiments and agrees with the opportunistic definition and use of the Russian resources. The LHCC underlines that a possible shortfall of resources during Run-3 could impact the scientific program. This message will be transmitted to the funding agencies at the RRB, inviting them to help filling the possible gaps.

The price of hardware across WLCG is back at the pre-COVID levels, meaning that the 15%/year gain expected in the "flat budget model" did not happen in the last two years. The time of delivery of hardware components is now more stretched. The delivery of network equipment is the most critical, with delays up to one year.

The LHCC supports the different initiatives in WLCG to modernise the infrastructure (DOMA activities, migrations to tokens) and the rollout of some of those features well before the start of HL-LHC.

The LHCC was presented with several initiatives to support the career of young people particularly in software development and supports those initiatives. The LHCC was also happy to see improvements in several common areas of the software stack bringing considerable improvements in the future (the CMS compression of RAW data was brought up as an example).
