Applications and Exploitation

  1. Project Types: See slides

  2. Low Energy funding activities:
Sunniva Siem gave a review of the activities they are doing within Low Energy for getting more funding.

  3. INTPART could be a very good possibility for NorCC next year. In this year's call they have 10 MNOK over 5 years which can be used for travels to experiments, student courses, intensive courses at CERN and etc. It could really enhance the centre. INTPART needs to be built on already existing projects from the research council, could this be NorCC? INTPART can also be built on smaller projects within the centre. One or more of the collaborators need to be a panorama partner.

  4. Co-fund system:
We have to coordinate and discuss with UiO to make this happen. Could be an argument to keep the PhD grants for the future.

  5. Søren Kragholm informed about SFIs:
Get 100 MNOK from Research Council and then 25% from the industry. The partners can put in their own contributions of 25% as well. Can be 200 MNOK in budget over 8 years. This needs big industrial partners. The biggest challenge is therefore to incorporate the big industrial partners. Almost the same work as a FRIPRO program but much more money. Would probably need a total of 1 year to create a proposal.

  6. Ole Petter informed about possible exploitation:
Companies are mainly producing products based and developed by scientist at CERN. 95% of the companies are not focused on the science, but we do have some exceptions. Tehy can have interests in Detector technologies, power companies, Big data, AI and similar. Good to start with something which already exists than to start something new.

Plan forwards and Discussion
See slides.

  • How do we ensure the involvement of young researchers? Should they be involved here or should they also have their own discussions? This is confined by the young researchers, that a dedicated session would be fruitful. Perhaps this could take place in spring. We could also have a representative from the young researchers.
  • What should we do about the Scientific Advisory Board?
  • We could combine the topics of Analysis, Physics and Phenomenology.
  • Computing is a very large topic and should have its own session next time. But it would be good to know what the physics goals are in respect to computing. Our Computing is driven by the applications we want to do.
  • We should have discussions with our Nordic colleagues. Especially at conferences such as Spåtind.
  • Today was very dense so perhaps we should have two days for the Workshop.
There are minutes attached to this event. Show them.
