AD/ELENA
- Commissioning in progress
- Physics start forseen Friday 30th June (maybe a bit earlier if possible)
- Physics extended by 12 days --> new injector schedule will be presented at the IEFC on Friday
Schedule Changes:
- Uncertainties in the start-up after the TS, due to a water leak. Delay of the start-up after the TS by about 7 hours - could be less
- Physics beam back expected Thursday evening at approximately 18:00 in the SPS
- Beams back from the PS Thursday 7:00 am - possibly earlier
- No HiRadMat in week 26
- Possibly a dedicated SPS Wednesday MD (anticipated from later in the year) - to be decided next Monday depending on the progress of AMBER NA66

Planning of the Techincal Stop week 25
Beam stop (cool-down) times as a function of beams and areas:
- 19/06 at 7:00 am: stop of TOF, SPS North Area (SFTPRO, except MD)
- 19/06 at 3:00 pm: stop of ISOLDE, PS EAST, COLDEX
- 20/06 at 4:00 am: stop of all other proton beams: AD, MD, COAST
There are big uncertainties with respect to the time when the beams will be ready again for the users!
The schedule below is outdated - the start-up after the TS is delayed. News from the user meeting: SPS target foil measurement could not be scheduled.
Beam back SPS NA: Thursday after 18:00
- Wednesday 21/06 at 2:00 pm the technical stop ends
No beam before 15:00 in the boosterSome beams could be back very early (possibly as early as 15:30- Others could take much longer
- In general 4 hours have been estimated for commissioning and start-up after the TS. During this period there might be already beam for the users, but the quality of the beams will be worked on.

PS Machine Report (D.Cotte)
Almost 94% of beam avalaibility for the PS this week (Thursday to Tuesday). Beam availability updated to 85% from Thursday to Thursday)
Only short beam interruption due to extraction kicker KFA71 or cavity trips.
Technical Stop started on Tuesday and is extended due to injection bumper magnet exchange in PSBooster.
As usual, we had a difficult restart after TS with many RF and ABT issues over last night.
- this morning, we are able to provide beams to nTOF, EASTs and LHC multi-bunches to SPS.
- we are still suffering from synchronization problems on the MTE beams, and LHC single bunch.
- some beam interruptions still necessary to put our injection kicker 45 back into operation, which is in degraded mode now.
SPS Machine Report (A. Spierer)

Safety / Radiation Protection (L. Di Giulio, J. Devine)
- Reminder to all experiments that helmets and safety shoes shall be worn when walking round in EHN1 and 157.
- We are receiving lots of ISIEC safety clearance requests ahead of time, which is good - but means we have less flexibility in terms of scheduling, so please remember to send the form as early as you can.
- Flamable gas requests have also been received in good time.
n_TOF (Nikolas Patronis)
- General comment: On Friday night we had a water leak alarm at n_TOF target on borated water moderator water circuit. The problem was on the seal of the filter. Thanks to HSE-RP, EN-CV and BE-OP-TI the leak issue was solved within a few hours (during the night Friday->Saturday).
- EAR1: 30Si(n,g) in data taking. A lot of calibration data during TS. We estimate ~ 3 weeks more to get the approved protons for EAR1 part of the measurement.
- EAR2: 243Am(n,f) in data taking. We estimate ~ 3 weeks more to get the approved protons for EAR2 part of the measurement.
- PoT: 7.5E18

East Area Users Tour de Table
T8: IRRAD / CHARM (F. Ravotti & S. Fiore)
Good week. During the access on Wednesday we exchanged samples for long-term users (EP-ESE, TE-MSC, etc.) and installed new experiments for CMS Pixel and ATLAS ITk strips (IRRAD). ATLAS, SY-BI, CMS, BE-CEM users removed their setup, new setups from ATLAS, TE-MPE, BE-CEM (CHARM). Beam alignment on X-axis back to ~90% over the week). Intensity limited by the beginning of the TS on Monday (see below). Upcoming access, next week.
T9 Outgoing: NanoCal (Matthew Moulson)
5 modules were tested with 10 GeV muon and 1-4 GeV positron beams. For each module, we collected 4-5 hours of positrons and ~8 hrs of muons (overnight). Light output and uniformity of response were studied. Data are under analysis!
A CRILIN prototype for the HIKE SAC, consisting of 2 layers of 3x3 crystals of PbF2 (each 10 x 10 x 40 mm3) was installed on a DESY table downstream of NanoCal. This allowed integration of 36 digitizer channels in the readout and complete debugging of the system in advance of our run at H2 in Week 33.

T9 Incoming: IDEA DRC - Week 26 (Nural Akchurin)
Setup will be installed on Wednesday June 28. Expect to run until July 5. Information on the objectives and run plan are uploaded to PS/SPS User Meeting agenda.
T10 Outgoing: ALICE MUON ID (Antonio Ortiz)
Different technologies for the MID were tested: scintillators (baseline), MWPC, RPC.
The test beam campaigne included: energy scan, intensity scan, HV scan. Uniformity of detectors was also tested. Light collection as a function of the incidence angle was measured. First results indicate that the campaigne was quite successful. The low cost plastic scintillator and the mexican one exhibit a uniform response. We have plenty of data to be analysed.
T10: IDEA CC (Nicola De Filippis)
Setup installed on June 21 and under test by using cosmics. Gas pipes installed for He and Isobuthane mixed in the gas rack available on site. Currently the gas mixture is flowing throught the detector and we will turn on the HV in a couple of hours. We will start our DAQ with 10 GeV beam configuration. No request for the AZALEA telescope.
North Area Beam Status
H2, H4, H6, and H8 Beams (D. Banerjee)
H2/H4: Normal operation, wobbling change on Friday/Saturday without issues.
H6: No issues. Operation ongoing.
H8: No issues. Operation ongoing.
Other Beams P42, K12, and M2 (D. Banerjee)
P42/K12: No issues running the lines. Prepared procedure for muon background test measurements, all is ready from the beam point of view.
M2: No issues from beamline point of view.
North Area Users Tour de Table

K12: NA62 (Lubos Bician)
- We took good data on Friday and during the weekend, affected only by ~2.5 hour period without beam on Sunday and by (usual) TDAQ issues when the beam quality is degraded (beam oscillations or intensity bump at the beginning of burst), mostly occurring at SPS super cycle changes.
- We profited from the technical stop this week and performed a few interventions on several sub-detectors.
- We look forward to good physics beam this evening.
M2: AMBER (Maxim Alexeev)
General situation:
From last Thursday we have continued the 160 GeV data point, collecting ~8k spills which was concluded on Saturday evening and from Sunday morning started to acquire the data for the last 80 GeV with a goal of ~15k spills in total. At 7:00 of Monday we prepared the area for the magnets power consumption test and afterwards went to standby regime for the rest of the technical stop.
Events:
During the stop we had some interventions on the CEDARs to address the problem of the precision control over the diaphragm. Presently there was no solution found for the issue, further investigation not only of the diaphragm positioning but also of the XCED motors precision is planned (probably 30.06).
The BI experts were investigating the scarce counting on the CEDAR PMTs when readout over the “CERN” signal branch. The problem seems to be identified, waiting for the beam to check the solution.
We would like to thank the colleagues for a continuous support and effort to improve the situation.
Request:
- We have to conclude the main data taking of the measurement on Mo. 26.06 in the morning to start the target emptiing and the warm up procedure for the change-over. To reach our statistic goal we have to collect ~11k spills until Monday morning. Three spills structure over the night + weekend would make it very probable.
- From Tue. 27.06 to Fr. 30.06 we will perform empty target measurments for all 6 energies. We planned this without MD on Wednesday 28 to be finished on Fr. 30.06 in the afternoon.
- We expect to start on 30.06 a high intensity DY test that would last ~3 days, that test would require 100-120 units on T6.
H2
H2 Outgoing: ATLAS ZDC/RPD (Riccardo Longo)
Short report of our test beam experience included in the slides posted in the agenda.
We managed to compress the program and to accomplish it by Monday 7 AM.
Thanks to everyone that helped us in accomplishing all the targets of our program.
H2 Main: LHCb ECAL (L. Martinazzoli)
Installation of the set-up completed. Safety visit concluded. Ready to take beam. The beamtime will be dedicated to studying a series of SpaCal ad Shashlik calorimeters for the LHCb PicoCal.

H4
H4 Main: NA64e (L. Molina)
We continue data taking and until the technical stop we collect 4.3x10^11 EOT
H6
H6 Outgoing Main: AIDA INNOVA WP6 (Ivan Vila Alvarez)
The setup is completed (mimosa telescope, FE-I4 reference plane, TLU and waveform digitizers) and ready for the data taking. A total of at least four DUT can be tested. As expected, much of the effort went into the integration of the new DRS4 ASIC based digitizer. Safety was cleared on Friday. Commissioning data taking for system debugging was acquired during the week-end.
H6: ATLAS ITK PIXEL (Andre Rummler)
Batch with inclined single chip RD53B modules has been installed already one week ago. Due to cooling issues and communication issues measurements will commence today. Meanwhile investigation of communication issue DAQ/chip ongoing; tuning as well. Intention to do some modifications (nitrogen pre-cooling; secondary liquid cooling circuit) in the next days / next week; as soon as al material is available; will try to do in time without beam.
H6 Incoming Main: CMS MTD - Week 26 (Roberta Arcidiacono)
We will be using the very same setup being now in use by the AIDAInnova team (mimosa telescope, FE-I4 reference plane, TLU and waveform digitizers). We will start continuing the measurements of LGADs from recent prototyping runs from CNM and HPK (which might start at the end of the AIDAInnova testbeam). In the second part of the week, we will test performance and stability of large devices (16x16 pads) from the stardard ETL prototypes.
H8
H8 Outgoing Main: TOTEM PPS (F. Garcia)
All four quarters of the nT2 telescopes were tested and commissioned for installation on the CMS cavern.
Many thanks to the NA beam physicist crew, radioprotection and general support.
H8 Outgoing Parallel: STI (L.S. Esposito)
The commissioning of the detector was delayed because we had an issue with the fiber connection from PPE128 and the rack room (new fibers were installed in the last weeks in PPE128 for the September run and we had to check the connections).
We started the data tacking with crystals Saturday evening.
We had a good run during the weekend and, in total, we measured 3 LHC crystals.
Effective cooperation with the other teams on the H8 line.
H8 Main: LHCb (L. Martinazzoli)
Installation of the VELO-TimePix4 telescope concluded yesterday.
PPE138: RICH & VELO-TimePix4
PPE168: MUONS
Leakage found in the gas system for the MUONS in PPE168. Gas bottle of Ar:CO2:CF4. Leakage probably located between the patch-panel in the area and the set-up. Checks ongoing.
Note: it would be great having a mean to check the gas consumption for the users.
H8 Parallel: UA9 (W. Scandale)
When the beam is back, we are ready to continue the UA9-STI program with the same setup in PPE128.
H8 Incoming Main: IDEA DRC - Week 26 (Gabriella Gaudio)
DRC calorimeter has been installed yesterday on the rotating/moving platform in the PPE168 area. The calorimeter is out the beam line, not interfering with ongoing testbeam.

K12: SHADOWS (Gaia Lanfranchi)
Setup installed on JUne 19-20-21. Safety inspection successfully passed the 21st of June at 4:30 pm.
The setup consists of two full-size modules of the SHADOWS muon chambers, one small scintillator hodoscope and one small mincromegas telescope. Each muon chamber is a matrix of 15 scintillating tiles with sipms readout. The plan is finalize the DAQ during the MD, debug it during the normal NA62 data taking during the week-end and then move to dump mode on Monday (Nico Charitonidis is in charge of change the beam settings) with a K12 beam intensity 10 times less than the nominal one. Take data during Monday, then dismantling during the first MD next week or the week after.

H6 Incoming: EXFLU - Week 26 (Valentina Sola)
Safety visit booked for 29/6 at 9:00.
Setup includes 4 to 6 DUTs read out by oscilloscopes, power suppliers for HV/LV. Eventual usage of dry ice to cool down the devices, if needed.
M2: MUonE tracker+ECAL (Carlo Ferrari)
One tracker station + ECAL, in order to perform calibration of the new Pt-2S tracker modules (threshold, Vbias scan, synchronization). Also, we would try the synchronization of the trackers DAQ and ECAL DAQ.
Detectors are 1 m off beam (we exploit the halo).
Safety inspection passed.
