The 2025 Coated Conductor for Applications Workshop will be hosted by CERN and University of Geneva, from March 11 to March 13, 2025. Following the tradition of the previous successful meetings, we plan three day of full-immersion in the status, challenges, and opportunities in coated conductor material science, manufacturing and applications, present and perspective. We plan to unite researchers working on all aspects of coated conductors — materials, testing, devices, and applications — in an informal and stimulating setting.
A specific focus of CCA-2025 will be to see how to respond and sustain the interest triggered by the efforts towards compact fusion projects, which has now extended to other fields of scientific and societal application. The increased awareness for energy efficiency and sustainability, as well as an increased perception of the risk in the helium supply chain, may well induce a decisive transition towards coated conductors. Applications generally wish to stimulate conductor research towards easier manufacturing, long lengths, and more in general properties suitable for applications, e.g. geometry or mechanics. At the same time, applications may have to change their paradigm by accepting features inherent to coated conductors. Realizing this debate is an objective of CCA-2025.
Given the dynamic field of research, we encourage students and early career professionals to participate in the workshop to foster their professional development.
The topics of CCA-2025 reflect closely those of previous workshops:
