Elisa Rapisarda
Elisa (MSc’01, PhD '01 University of Catania) is an experimental nuclear physicist.
She has been a Marie Curie Intraeuropean Fellow at KU Leuven (2010-2012), Research Fellow at CERN ISOLDE (2012-2014) and
Research associate at Pauls Scherrer Institute (2015-2019).
Since 2019, Elisa has joined the International Atomic Energy Agency,
where she is part of the Technical and Scientific Services division in support of Safeguards.
She was involved at CERN ISOLDE with the MiniBall and IDS collaboration in the study of fundamental understanding of nuclear shapes
and shell model evolution far from stability.
At the Paul Scherrer Institute she initiated the muX experimental program
where muons are captured onto radioactive atoms to study the nuclear shape of exotic nuclei.
In the last years, her interests shifted towards the application of nuclear techniques in everyday life.
At the IAEA, Elisa is involved in the characterization and quantification of Pu after reprocessing
and the measurement of U enrichment in enrichment plants.
Outside research, Elisa loves hiking in the Alps.
