CERN Hostel room
The CERN subsistence of 92 CHF per day is designed to cover your housing, food and local transportation during your stay. A typical meal at the CERN restaurant is between 9-15 CHF. (In February 2024, 1 CHF is approximately 1,07 EUR).
If you are staying at the CERN hostel it is convenient because you are on the CERN site and closer to work. The rooms we have been assigned are the more expensive ones, however you will not have to share.
If you are staying on the French side of the border, food is in general slightly cheaper and it is easier to cook together in the shared kitchen (you will be only four persons, compared to maybe 20 on the Meyrin site). For transport, CERN can provide bikes for your stay.
During the weekends, many students take the opportunity to visit European cities or the mountains and lake in the area.
