The in-medium dynamics of quarkonium, bound states of heavy quark-antiquark pairs, is one of the few examples of physical processes that can be studied in heavy ion collisions where a frequency-dependent two-point function of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) degrees of freedom may be probed directly. Traditional phenomenological calculations make the Markovian assumption of no memory effect in the dynamics. Yet, there is evidence from recent calculations that Markovian physical processes may not be the dominant drivers of the dynamics in the strong coupling limit.
In this work, we initiate a study of in-medium quarkonium dynamics using an approach that fully captures the memory effects induced in quarkonium dynamics via QGP correlators, at the cost of treating the dynamics of unbound heavy quark pairs in an approximate but systematically improvable way. As such, our results provide a window to access novel QGP information from experimental data. Comparison with data will be presented.
