Description
It has been of recent interest to the field to consider the novel coupling of jets to the collective flow of the QGP. In this talk, we systematically contrast the implementation of flow effects via direct inclusion at the level of the scattering potential ("jet drift") and via Lorentz boosted isotropic broadening ("global boost", e.g. CoLBT, MARTINI, etc.). First, we identify the precise spatial and quantum interference pieces missing from the boost implementation and discuss the intimate relationship with the details of the spatial integral over the medium. After establishing the theoretical ingredients, we discuss how to consistently implement jet drift in a Monte Carlo event generator. We introduce a modification to the gradient expansion technique introduced in the derivation of jet drift and discuss the interpretation of the results of the original and new gradient expansions. Finally, we quantitatively compare the effect of jet drift and the global boost technique on new observables in several collision systems using an improved version of the purpose-built Anisotropic Partonic Evolution (APE) event-by-event Monte Carlo. We show that jet drift can be used to probe features of the medium that are not treated by the boost implementation.
