Description

Recent LHCb measurements (2410.18018) of the transverse momentum distribution of prompt $\psi$(2S) production in jets from $pp$ collision at the centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV cannot be explained by fixed order NRQCD followed by naive PYTHIA shower. We use two different frameworks: Fragmenting Jet Functions + NRQCD and Gluon Fragmentation Improved PYTHIA to study the production of $\psi$(2S). Both these approaches provide a much better description of the data in the $\eta_{\text{jet}}=2.5-4.0$ and different $p_T$ bins in the $15-60$ GeV/c range. These frameworks shed light on the production mechanism of the $\psi$(2S) at the LHC and can be used to extract the nonperturbative NRQCD long distance matrix elements.
