Description

We discuss anisotropic flow, or elliptic and triangular flow of the J/ψ, ψ(2S), and χc1(1P) in relativistic heavy ion collisions based on the coalescence model. Starting from the investigation on transverse momentum distributions of the above charmonium states, we calculate their elliptic and triangular flow when they are produced by quark recombination. By not only incorporating the Gaussian source in space into the phase space distributions for charm quarks but also taking into account the expansion of the system to elliptic and triangular shapes in heavy ion collisions, we find different elliptic and triangular flow for the J/ψ, ψ(2S), and χc1(1P). We show that the wave function distribution of charmonium states plays a significant role, leading to different transverse momentum distributions as well as different elliptic and triangular flow for different charmonium states, and thereby providing plausible reasons for recent measurements by the CMS Collaboration on different elliptic flow between the J/ψ and ψ(2S).
