Letting the data speak for itself: Model-Agnostic Hadronization at the EIC using a new Event Generator

Description

The impact of the cold nuclear medium on hadronization remains an open problem. We introduce an Event-Generator framework for the Electron-Ion Collider that couples hard scattering dynamics and soft final-state interactions through eHIJING and SMASH, respectively. To study hadronization, we use time dependent cross-sections. We adopt a model-agnostic and physics-constrained approach using Gaussian Processes to construct these time-dependent cross sections that models the gradual onset of hadronic interactions. We perform simulations across multiple beam energies and e+A collision systems and compute nuclear modification factors $R_{eA}$ of identified particles as functions of hadron momentum fraction $z_h$, transverse momentum $p_T$, and Bjorken-$x$. We find that $R_{eA}$ exhibits a non-negligible sensitivity to the hadronization dynamics within the nuclear medium.
