Toward a Complete Description of Partonic Interactions in JETSCAPE

Partonic interactions play a crucial role in understanding the space–time evolution of the quark–gluon plasma (QGP) formed in high-energy nuclear collisions. Early efforts to model these dynamics were pioneered by the Parton Cascade Model (PCM) [1, 2], which provided a microscopic description of -parton transport through pQCD derived hard scatterings. Since the PCM does not capture soft non-perturbative interactions relevant for bulk dynamics, its application to the description of RHIC and LHC data has been limited. Most contemporary jet–medium interaction models primarily emphasize hard–soft and soft–soft interactions, while direct hard–hard partonic scatterings described by the PCM type models are typically neglected.
In this work, we develop a new implementation of the PCM as an additional component within the JETSCAPE framework to describe interactions among hard partons and provide a more complete description of partonic dynamics. Multijet production is initialized using TRENTO initial conditions, and the subsequent jet evolution is coupled to the SMASH Boltzmann transport model. To describe partonic interactions, the SMASH model is extended to incorporate partonic scattering cross sections. This setup enables the simultaneous treatment of hard–hard scatterings alongside medium-induced radiation and hard–soft and soft–soft interactions already present in the multistage energy-loss framework. We discuss the impact of including hard–hard and multijet interactions on jet quenching observables and outline prospects for systematically improving the description of early-time partonic dynamics.
