Description

In relativistic heavy-ion collisions, jet quenching is a crucial phenomenon for understanding the interaction between hard-scattered partons and the hot, dense QCD medium known as the Quark–Gluon Plasma (QGP).
Jet observables, which serve as sensitive tools to test both perturbative and non-perturbative QCD, are significantly modified in the presence of the QGP. In particular, the jet mass ($M_{\text{jet}}$) is strongly correlated with the parton virtuality and its final-state radiation patterns. Therefore, measuring $M_{\text{jet}}$ in heavy-ion collisions provides a powerful probe of modifications to the evolution of parton virtuality induced by jet quenching.

In this poster, we present the $M_{\text{jet}}^2$ distributions corresponding to various jet transverse momentum ($p_{\text{T,jet}}$) ranges in Zr+Zr and Ru+Ru collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\text{NN}}} = 200$ GeV using the STAR detector and introduce a novel semi-inclusive hadron-triggered jet mass measurement methodology as a function of $(p_{\text{T,jet}}, M_{\text{jet}}^2)$. Jets, reconstructed by the anti-$k_{\text{T}}$ algorithm with various jet resolution parameters ($R = 0.2, 0.4$) are selected in the recoil region ($|\pi-\Delta \phi|< \pi/4$) with respect to trigger hadrons with $7 < p_{\text{T}} < 25 \,\text{GeV}/c$. As a method for uncorrelated background correction, the event-mixing technique is utilized, and yield-corrected distributions for different centrality classes $(0–10\%$, $60–80\%)$ are compared.
Fully corrected $M_{\text{jet}}^2$ distributions are also compared with the STAR-tuned PYTHIA6 at $\sqrt{s} = 200$ GeV to investigate medium-induced shifts and suppression of $M_{\text{jet}}^2$ distributions.
