Studies of $\phi$-meson production at LHCb

Description

The $\phi$ meson provides a unique probe of strange-quark dynamics in high-energy nuclear collisions. Its mass lies at the boundary between perturbative and nonperturbative QCD, making $\phi$-mseson production sensitive to both regimes. In heavy-ion collisions, $\phi$-meson production is particularly senstive to strange-quark coalescence in quark-gluon plasma. Owing to its zero net strangeness, measurements of $\phi$-meson production help disentangle the physical mechanisms behind strangeness enhancement in high-energy hadron and nuclear collisions. The excellent hadron identification capabilities of the LHCb detector enable precise studies of $\phi$-meson production in nuclear collisions. Furthermore, the SMOG system allows LHCb to investigate $\phi$ production in fixed-target collisions. New measurements of $\phi$-meson production in both collider and fixed-target configurations are presented.
