Description
Jet substructure observables based on final-state hadrons provide sensitive probes of parton-shower evolution and hadronisation. The ALICE Collaboration has measured the transverse momentum fraction, $j_{\mathrm{T}}$, of charged-jet constituents in pp and p--Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}} = 5.02~\mathrm{TeV}$, both inclusively and differentially in the longitudinal momentum fraction, $z$. These results, together with comparisons to MC event generators, offer quantitative constraints on perturbative and non-perturbative QCD dynamics and serve as an essential baseline for future medium studies.
In this contribution, we present jet fragmentation results and discuss their implications for understanding both the perturbative shower and non-perturbative hadronisation components in the evolution of jets. We also present the status of a more differential fragmentation analysis, using the newly collected datasets from Run 3, where the substantial statisical gain, due to the upgrades to the ALICE detector, are leveraged. These results aim to extend the precision of the measurement and introduce new multiplicity-dependent studies to investigate possible medium-like effects in high-multiplicity pp collisions. These studies extend the quantitative understanding of jet fragmentation, from the interplay of perturbative and hadronisation dynamics to the search for possible modifications in various collision systems.
