Description
The mass of heavy quarks modifies the pattern of QCD radiation inside jets by suppressing soft and collinear gluon emissions through the dead cone effect. In heavy-ion collisions, this mass-dependent effect provides a unique opportunity to probe the interplay between vacuum and medium-induced radiation. We present a Run 2 measurement of the substructure of charm-tagged jets in PbPb collisions at \sqrt{s_{NN}} = 5.02 TeV with the CMS detector. Jet substructure techniques based on the reconstruction of an angle-ordered branching history are used to access the dead cone region and to isolate hard splittings inside the jet. By comparing the angular structure of D0-tagged jets to inclusive jets, in pp and PbPb collisions, the sensitivity to charm quark mass effects in the presence of the quark–gluon plasma is investigated. Comparisons to models and calculations are discussed.
