Description

This contribution presents an innovative method for deuteron identification at LHCb. By exploiting time-of-flight measurements from the gaseous tracker located downstream of the LHCb magnet, distinct nuclear species, from deuterons to alpha particles, are clearly observed in fixed-target $pHe$ collisions, achieved via helium injection into the LHC beam pipe using the SMOG system. This technique opens new possibilities for a rich program of measurements with relevance for both QCD and astrophysics.
