Swiss Days of the CTA Observatory 2024
CSCS Conference Room Ground Floor (E4)
Swiss National Supercomputing Center / CSCS
Also building on the scientific and technological expertise developed by the Swiss Community on the current generation of ground-based high-energy gamma-ray telescopes, participation in the Cherenkov Telescope Array Observatory (CTAO) has entered the hottest phase of construction. At this meeting, we will discuss the Swiss contributions and the scientific goals of CTAO (see also CTA-CH). We are concluding the first frame of the Roadmap on Research Infrastructure program for CTAO of 2021-2024 and we will start soon the new frame for 2025-2028.
This meeting is the 4th edition of the Swiss CTA days. Presentations in the first edition are accessible online:
CTAO will be composed of 2 arrays in La Palma Canarian island and Chile for more than 60 telescopes. It will be about ten times more sensitive than current instruments and have unprecedented energy coverage and accuracy. CTAO should pursue to become an open-access observatory of interest for the scientific community worldwide
Swiss scientists from the University of Geneva, EPFL, ETHZ, University of Bern, and the University of Zürich formed the CTAO-CH Collaboration. Their contributions to CTAO are described in their WhitePaper.
The University of Zürich is one of the 3 Founding Institutes of the first interim legal entity of the Observatory, the CTAO GmbH, and Switzerland will be Founding Observers of the CTAO ERIC in its final phase of establishment. UNIGE, UZH, and ETHZ have been members of the CTAO Consortium since 2005.
The CSCS, our guest for this meeting, is planned to be one of the CTAO Off-Site data centers. Its activities and participation in the first data challenge will be discussed as well as all of the activities in 2024 and in the next future. We welcome all members of the CTAO Consortium and Project to join our meeting and scientists elsewhere.
We are pleased to invite you to participate in these discussions.
