Default programme:
We suggest as a default option to guide your visit the following schedule:
- Leaving Rio de Janeiro on Saturday morning around 8:30 you arrive in Paraty around 12:30 in the afternoon.
- Go to the walking Paraty historic city tour on Saturday afternoon (~2h).
- On Sunday you can take the boat tour to visit the nearby islands, beaches, indigenous towns etc. They stop for lunch but it is paid separately (~6h).
- Sunday evening you may rest at your hotels. Optionally you may ask the agency for other activities to add to the schedule.
- Go back to Rio de Janeiro calmly on Monday morning-noon to catch the flights that leave in the afternoon-evening. You should consider that the trip takes about 4 hours from Paraty to Rio. The transfer timetables are shown in the image at the bottom of the page.
The table below shows an estimate of the costs of the default trip per person, depending on the size of the group (without including the cost of accommodation and meals).
If you are staying longer in Paraty you can choose additional activities and a different return time/date.
Accommodation
One suggested hotel is Pousada do Principe, but you may choose among many pousadas in the region around the historic city center, praia do pontal and Caborê which are nice areas.
Transfer Rio de Janeiro - Paraty - Rio de Janeiro
Below is the regular van timetable with departure times from Rio to Paraty from different locations, or from Paraty to Rio de Janeiro from the Hotels and Inns in the Paraty city center and surroundings. The trip takes about 4 hours from the Rio de Janeiro metropolitan area and Paraty, through a winding and beautiful coastal highway (Costa Verde).
For groups of 5-10 people it is possible to book a private van for the total price of 2070 BRL per trip for the group (so 207-414 BRL per person depending on the size of the group -- about 40 to 80 USD). In this case you can schedule as a group for a common departure time. It could be a good option for people wishing to return to Rio de Janeiro on the afternoon of Sunday November 16th. Take into account that the trip would normally take about 4 hours, but on a Sunday afternoon-early evening, arriving back to Rio de Janeiro, the van can find big traffic jams and extend for 1-2 more hours than at other moments, so plan ahead!
