Description
Tau leptons play a central role in the search for physics beyond the Standard Model at the LHC. This talk presents recent results from the CMS Collaboration on both direct searches for new physics with taus and precision tests of lepton flavor universality. Novel reconstruction techniques, targeting taus with low transverse momentum and those produced at displaced vertices, open sensitivity to a wide range of signatures. This talk presents dedicated searches for new physics across this newly opened phase space, as well as tests of Lepton Flavor Universality (LFU) and searches for Lepton Flavor Violation (LFV) in heavy flavour decays. Highlights include searches for charged LFV in τ->3μ and LFU tests in Bc->J/ψτν, alongside new physics searches exploiting unconventional tau kinematics. Together, these studies illustrate the versatility of tau leptons as powerful probes for new phenomena at CMS.
