Description
Summary
The project int.eu.grid has started the first of May 2006, and will extend
over the next two years with the purpose of deploying a stable infrastructure
for interactive support of applications on the Grid.
During the first months of the project the applications team has
identified a total of seven applications in four research areas:
High Energy Physics, Nuclear Fusion, Medicine and Environment.
We describe here one application belonging to each research area in
terms of computing needs and interactive grid added value, in particular
what concerns steering, graphical display and visualization needs. The
High Energy Physics application is devoted to checking Quality of Service.
On the environmental sector we have included applications analysing
environmental risk related to climate change scenarios, flooding situations
and dispersion of pollutant agents in the atmosphere. In what concerning
Medical applications we have analysed the use of the interactive Grid to
speed up image reconstruction from data coming from a Ultra Sound Tomography
device.
Finally, the Nuclear Fusion application dedicated to visualize the
plasma particles movement inside fusion devices will be the pilot
application of the project. In this sense it is interesting to define a
common policy in the form of Memorandum of Understanding
with EGEE related to the interactive support to users of the Fusion VO.
