How to reach CHEP, IISc
Bengaluru is connected by air, rail and road to all the metros and most major cities of the country. Also, one can fly directly to Bengaluru from several airports.
If you fly to Bengaluru:
Note: Bengaluru airport has two terminals- T1 and T2. T2 just started a few weeks ago. If you happen to land at T2, just take the free of cost shuttle bus that brings one to the T1, from where the local transportation is very streamlined as detailed below.
Note: IISc is known as ‘Tata Institute’ locally.
Taxi
Taxi services are available at the exit of the departure terminal. Metered taxis are also available just outside the terminal on the kerb. You are encouraged to take the metered taxis on the kerb side or Ola/Uber, other than those from counters like Akbar's. Approximate fares to IISc are between ₹1100 to ₹1500.
Bus:
Air conditioned buses to IISc are available from the airport and ticket charges are about ₹300. Go to the airport bus stop and board the KIA-10 bus. Ask the conductor to drop you at ‘Tata Institute’. You will be dropped at the IISc main gate.
If you arrive by rail:
Bengaluru is connected to all major Indian cities by rail.
Yeshwanthpur railway station: It is the closest railway station to IISc (approx. 2 km). One can hire an auto-rickshaw or an Ola/Uber etc. to reach IISc campus. Approximate cost is ₹100.
KSR Railway station: This is the most prominent railway station in Bengaluru. It is around 7 km from IISc campus. You can easily get an auto-rickshaw, an Ola/Uber taxi or a prepaid taxi from here. Approximate cost is 200.
SMVT Railway Station: If you happen to come at the SVMT Railway station, you can easily get an auto, Ola/Uber taxi or a prepaid taxi fromthere to reach IISc. The cost should be around ₹500-₹700.
Another option is to walk from the railway station to the ‘Majestic bus stand’ through the underpass that connects these two. From the majestic bus stand, you can reach platform number 22. From here, you can get a bus for ‘Tata Institute’ at a frequency of every two minutes.
