Description

The international collaboration DRD Calo, hosted by CERN, bundles the strategic R&D for calorimeter systems for future experiments in particle physics. It was founded in 2024 and currently comprises 134 institutes from 27 countries. This contribution will introduce the collaboration and its research programme and summarise the highlights of the first two years since its foundation. These include beam test results with novel optical materials exploiting dual readout techniques combined with excellent energy resolutions. Furthermore, the collaboration develops innovative imaging calorimeters featuring high-level integration based on semi-conductors, multi-pattern gas detectors and scintillating tiles. Noble Liquid calorimeters plan for next-generation calorimeters with a tenfold increase in granularity compared with today’s devices. This requires a careful layout of readout electrodes and front-end electronics, whose operation in cryogenic environment is considered. The core work of the collaboration is supported with state-of-the-art electronics and photosensors and benefits from consolidated software and computing framework. The detector development will make strong use of artificial intelligence and corresponding groups are an integral part of the collaboration. The presentation will close with an outlook on the next approval period 2027-2029.
