Description
The CEPC collider requires approximately 60 MW of beam power, making RF source efficiency a critical factor for overall project cost effectiveness. High-power, high-efficiency klystrons are therefore attractive RF sources due to their superior efficiency compared with other amplifiers. At IHEP, a high-efficiency 650 MHz continuous-wave klystron prototype completed in 2024 achieved a continuous-wave output power of 803 kW with an efficiency of 78.5%. In parallel, a multi-beam klystron targeting efficiencies above 80% is under development and scheduled for high-power testing in 2026. In addition, an energy-recovery klystron with a target efficiency exceeding 85% is being fabricated and will be high-power tested by the end of 2026. For the CEPC linac, high-power S-band and C-band 80 MW klystrons are also under development at IHEP; the S-band design efficiency exceeds 55%, and two prototype variants are planned for testing in early 2026.
