  • Submission deadline
    No deadline

The main call for abstracts is now closed. We will consider late-breaking abstracts on a rolling basis, and pending available programme slots.

Please remember to also fill in a registration form. If you would like to be considered for a bursary, please contact us by email on info@sc4rc.org prior to registration.

We invite researchers, computing professionals, sustainability practitioners, and policy makers to submit abstracts to present their work at the conference through oral presentations or posters and/or run short interactive sessions on a topic of their choice. Prizes will be awarded for best contributions (more information coming soon).

This conference provides a unique interdisciplinary platform to share innovative approaches, practical solutions, and research findings on reducing the environmental impact of computing across all research domains. Whether you work in data science, high-performance computing, software engineering, environmental science, or any compute-intensive research field, we welcome your contributions to building a more sustainable research computing ecosystem.

In particular, we welcome submissions on all aspects covered by the conference, and are hoping to showcase a broad range of topics relevant to computational research sustainability. Examples of topics are listed below, but we also welcome other related submissions:

  • estimation and monitoring of environmental impacts and energy usage of computing,
  • responsible use of computing hardware (sustainable procurement,
  • extending and optimising use phase, responsible disposal),
  • resource-efficient software,
  • carbon-aware scheduling,
  • FAIR and effective data sharing, storage and curation,
  • addressing the rebound effect,
  • community building and training,
  • general and field-specific best practices,
  • changing user behaviour and incentivising sustainable computing practices (addressing e.g. external drivers).

Note there will be no formal proceedings for this first edition of SC4RC 2026, so please feel free to present published research, or work that will be submitted for publication elsewhere.

Conference output will be compiled and published as a position paper co-authored by conference participants.

Submission timeline

  • The main call for abstracts is now closed. Late-breaking submissions will be considered on a rolling basis, and pending available slots.
  • Notification of decision: late March 2026.

Submission format

Abstracts should be up to 300 words (excluding references).

Submission Categories

When submitting an abstract, please indicate the presentation format(s) for which you wish your submission to be considered (poster only, oral presentation/poster or interactive session). All abstracts will be assessed and ranked by a panel of reviewers. The committee will use these rankings to develop the scientific sessions.

Oral Presentations:
- 15-minute talk followed by 5-minute Q&A;
- Selected from submitted abstracts based on scientific merit, innovation, and practical relevance;
- Priority given to interdisciplinary approaches and transferable solutions.

Poster Presentations:
- Interactive poster sessions with dedicated networking time;
- Opportunities for in-depth discussion and knowledge exchange;
- Open to in-person presenters only.

Interactive sessions:
Interactive sessions offer unique opportunities for participants to give an in-depth look at a particular tool or approach relating to sustainable computing. These 45-minute sessions could include, for example:
- Demonstrating a particular software product, approach or standard;
- Delivering specific training or an interactive tutorial;
- Conducting information gathering or exploring a topic;
Other ideas are welcome.
