PROGRAMME DATES
- Programme duration. The Belgian Teacher Programme 2026 will take place at CERN from 12 to 17 April 2026. Participants are expected to attend the full duration of the programme.
- Arrival. We recommend that you plan your journey so that you arrive at the latest on Sunday, 12 April 2026, at 4 pm. Please note that you can enter the CERN site on Sunday, 12 April 2026, at the earliest.
- Welcome Reception. We kindly invite you to our welcome reception, which will be held on Sunday, 12 April 2026, at 5 pm in the Mezzanine area of CERN's Main Building.
- End of programme. The programme will conclude on Friday, 17 April 2026, in the early afternoon.

LANGUAGE
- The entire programme will be conducted in English, with the possibility for participants to interact with one another in any language they feel comfortable using.
GETTING TO CERN
- Travel to Geneva: Geneva can be reached by plane, by train (with connection in Paris or Lyon), or by car.
- Reaching CERN with public transport: CERN is located about 30 minutes away by public transport from both Geneva Airport and Geneva’s main train station.

If you arrive by train, we suggest you get off at the central station, called “Genève Gare Cornavin”. Take tram number 18 (direction CERN) and get off at the terminus (“CERN”).

If you arrive by plane, take either bus 23 (to ZIPLO), 28 (to Parfumerie) or 57 (to ZIMEYSA Gare), get off at Blandonnet, then catch tram number 18 to CERN.

Bus/Tram ticket machines are available at all stops. The ticket “Tout Genève“ (Zone 10) costs 3 CHF, must be purchased before stepping in the vehicle, is valid for an hour and will be sufficient to reach CERN. Details are available on the official website of the Geneva public transportation system (TPG).
- Parking: free parking will be available for the entire duration of the programme. Please provide your car plate number at final registration time.
YOUR ARRIVAL
- Entrance formalities. After your arrival, please report to the guards at Entrance B (open 24 hours). Please tell them your name, mention the Belgian Teacher Programme, and show them your passport or photographic ID. The guards will then hand you an individual visitor badge that you should always wear visibly during your stay.
- Reaching the Hostel. After this procedure, you may enter the CERN campus (see map below) and go to the CERN Hostel reception in Building 39 to check in and obtain your room key.

DURING YOUR STAY
- Accommodation. We have reserved hotel rooms (with toilet and shower; towels are provided) in our CERN hotel for the duration of the programme from 12-17 April 2026. Please note that it is not possible to further extend your stay at the CERN hotel. If you wish to arrive earlier or stay longer, we kindly ask you to arrange accommodation outside of CERN for the respective dates.
- Currency. CERN is located on both sides of the border between Switzerland and France. The Swiss Franc (CHF) is the most commonly used currency, but payments may also be made in Euros (EUR). There is a UBS bank located on-site, and ATMs are available. Both the CERN hotel and CERN’s restaurants accept cash and credit cards.
- Meals. You can have breakfast, lunch, and dinner at CERN’s Restaurant 1, which is open from 7 am to 10 pm every day of the week. The official dinner on Wednesday is offered.
- Laundry service. A self-service laundry is located in the basement of the CERN hotel.
- Smoking at CERN, you can only smoke in specially marked areas.
- Laptop/Tablet. It is not mandatory to bring a personal device with you. However, we suggest doing so if you want to take notes during lectures.
- Access to the Internet. At CERN, the “CERN Visitor” network is available to you, which you can use with all your mobile devices. All you have to do is connect to the network, register your email address and phone number, and after a short confirmation procedure, you will have full access to CERN’s network.
We will go through the details with you at the beginning of the programme to ensure that all devices are successfully connected online. - CERN Campus App. Download this app on your smartphone to get access to an interactive CERN map and numerous practical information (menus, phone numbers etc). Available on Google Play or Apple Appstore.
- Taking photographs. You may take photographs of everything at CERN with respect of privacy of other persons – but you will need a camera or a smartphone. So please do not forget to bring one with you!
- Power adapters. Swiss power sockets look different from standard European ones – not to mention those from Central America or other parts of the world. Please bring an adaptor to connect your devices to either Swiss or European power sockets. If need be, socket adapters can be borrowed at the Hostel reception.
SAFETY
- Emergency. In case of an emergency (fire, accident, etc.) at CERN, you should call our Fire Brigade. The telephone number is +41 22 767 4444. Our fire brigade is on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- Guided tours. Some of the areas visited are not accessible to pregnant women, individuals with reduced mobility, or those with active medical implants (such as pacemakers or insulin pumps) or ferromagnetic implants. Please inform us in the Final registration form if you are affected by any of these conditions.
- Shoes. During the programme, you will visit many CERN research facilities. For safety reasons, high-heeled shoes, open-toed shoes, flip-flops, or sandals are not permitted for visits to the CERN research facilities. Therefore, please make sure to bring along both comfortable and suitable (closed and flat) shoes.
- Medical Service. If you feel sick, which we sincerely hope you do not, you can go to CERN’s ambulant medical service (+41 22 767 3802). If you have serious health problems outside the opening hours of the medical service (8:30 am – 12:00 pm and 2:00 – 5:30 pm), please call the Fire Brigade.
