Description

We present a detailed statistical reassessment of the apparent tension between the T2K and NOvA long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiments, focusing on the robustness of its significance under non-asymptotic conditions.

Our analysis reveals that the naive interpretation of the T2K–NOvA discrepancy in terms of the Gaussian approximation can lead to misestimated confidence levels, with the degree of mismatch depending sensitively on the parameter space region.

Using the Feldman–Cousins framework, we extract calibrated significance levels for the observed level of disagreement between the two experiments. This allows us to provide a more reliable quantification of the tension.
