Description
We discuss how non-adiabatic mixing in quantum mechanics can be conveniently described within a density matrix formalism. We derive a general formula for the transition probability that generalises well known Landau-Zener formula and can be applied to different problems. In particular, we consider active-sterile neutrino mixing in the early universe and reproduce numerical results existing in the literature.
