About CERN Baltic Conferences
The CERN Baltic Conference (CBC) is an annual event hosted by one of the higher education or research institutions from the CERN Baltic Group (CBG), with the aim of connecting and growing the scientific community in the Baltic states working on CERN-related research topics.
The sixth event, CBC 2026, will be hosted by the University of Latvia (UL), in Riga, Latvia and is organised by the UL Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology in collaboration with the CERN National Contact Point for Latvia, and CBG partners.
Scope and scientific topics
The scope of the event covers all CERN-related scientific topics with a strong focus on the CERN-related research activities in the Baltic states, as well as the sessions on the policy and state-of-play in the Baltics, and relevant industry in the three countries.
Specifically, the scientific topics include, but are not limited to:
- Particle physics: experiment and theory
- Nuclear and atomic physics
- Accelerator physics
- Particle accelerator and detector technologies
- Medical and societal application of particle accelerators.
Objectives
The main objectives of the CBC 2026 are to bring together the scientific community of the Baltic states and to provide updates on the most recent scientific achievements of the members of this research community working on CERN-related fields of research.
The aims of the event are:
- To connect and build the scientific community in CERN-related fields of research in the Baltic region and beyond;
- To stimulate the development of the ecosystems of scientific research and higher education in the Baltic states;
- To inform and engage the policy makers across the region on the benefits of a strong research community and the requirements for further growth;
- To inform and engage various stakeholders, including the higher-education institutions and industry representatives in the development of the scientific ecosystem in the Baltics.
The spirit of the event is based on the core principles of the CBG of transparency, honesty, sharing and collaboration.
