1st Announcement

Dear Colleagues,

MCnet and the LHC Physics Center at CERN (LPCC) are organizing the 2012 MCnet-LPCC Summer School on Event Generators for LHC Physics, to take place at CERN, July 23 - 27, 2012.

   http://indico.cern.ch/event/mclpcc12

The school will provide a four-day course of training in the physics and techniques used in modern Monte Carlo event generators via a series of lectures and practical sessions, following the format of the MCnet schools held in Durham (2007), Debrecen (2008), Lund (2009), Karlsruhe (2010), and Tokyo (2011). The school is aimed at advanced doctoral students and young postdocs and is intended to impart a deeper understanding of event-generator physics for both experimental and theoretical uses. Participants will have the opportunity to present posters on their research.

The programme will cover:

    Monte Carlo Methods (L. Lonnblad)
    Event Generators (M. Seymour)
    Jets (M. Cacciari)
Matching to Matrix Elements (S. Hoeche)
Monte Carlo for Higgs (C. Mariotti)
    Monte Carlo for BSM (TBA)
    MC Uncertainties and Tuning (TBA)
    Rivet and Event-Generator Tutorials (D. Grellscheid & H. Hoeth)
    Poster Session (all)

A preliminary timetable is available at:

Funding for this year's school comes from the LHC Physics Center at CERN (LPCC). The registration fee for all students will be paid by LPCC, but most students are expected to pay for their own travel and hotel room. A small number of bursaries are available to help offset travel costs primarily for participants from less favoured regions and participants needing long-distance travel. These can be applied for as part of the application process.

The registration deadline is March 30, 2012. Early application is recommended, as the number of participants will be limited to 50.
