Description
Delafossite CuCr${}_{1-x}$Fe${}_x$O${}_2$ (0.0 ≤ $x$ ≤ 0.15) semiconductors were synthesized by self-combustion urea nitrate process. The effects of Fe concentration on microstructural, optical and magnetic properties were investigated. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis results reveal the delafossite structure of all the samples. The lattice spacing of CuCr${}_{1-x}$Fe${}_x$O${}_2$ increased slightly with increasing substitution of Fe at the Cr site. The optical properties at room temperature exhibited the transparent in the visible region with direct optical band energy gap of 3.5 eV. The magnetic hysteresis loops measured at room temperature showed that the CuCrO${}_2$ samples exhibit paramagnetic behavior. However, a weak ferromagnetism property was found at the Fe-doped CuCrO${}_2$ samples up to 15%. The substitution of Cr${}^{3+}$ by Fe${}^{3+}$ produces a mixed effect on the magnetic properties of CuCrO${}_2$ delafossite oxide.
