Practical Information

Location

Our laboratory is located in the city of Campinas, state of São Paulo. The distance to the Sao Paulo capital is 114 km only.  In São Paulo (capital) are two international airports. The transfer between São Paulo and Campinas is very easy to get, low cost and can be by bus, vans, taxis and rental cars.

How to Reach the Laboratory

  1. Take a taxi to CNPEM

    Address: Rua Giuseppe Máximo Scolfaro, nº 10 000, Polo II de Alta Tecnologia

    We strongly recommend you take this address and the laboratory name written down on paper to show the taxi driver.
  2. At CNPEM's concierge will be a list with the names of all participants. Therefore no registration is required. Just say your name at the concierge that your access will be released.
  3. The name of the building where is the meeting room called Prédio Amarelo. Upon arriving at the reception of Prédio Amarelo will be possible to visualize information signs indicating the direction to the meeting room
  4. Registration time on Monday 11 May from 8:30 to 9:00. The course starts at 9:00

*Barão Geraldo is the name of the nearest neighborhood of CNPEM (LNLS).

The hotels can order a taxi for you. I strongly recommend that participants bring written on a paper the CNPEM and the hotel addresses to show to taxi drivers, because it can happen that the taxi driver do not speak English; this is very common in Brazil.

  • Viracopos= airport in Campinas (VCP is the abbreviation of Viracopos Airport)
  • Cumbica (Guarulhos)= airport in São Paulo (GRU is the abbreviation of Guarulhos Airport)
  • Congonhas= airport in São Paulo (CGH is the abbreviation of Congonhas Airport)
  • Rodoviária de Campinas= bus station in Campinas

Airport

  • Guarulhos (GRU) Airport (Governador André Franco Montoro Airport), known as "Cumbica Airport", is where the most of foreign participants will arrive. It is located less than 60 minutes from the city center and around 1h30 min from Campinas.

  • The Viracopos (VCP) International Airport is located in one of the major technological poles of the Country, in Campinas, at town that shelters large universities, major highways, and state of art technology corporations.

  • If you are coming from Guarulhos International Airport (GRU) to reach Campinas, you can take the Shuttle bus to the Campinas Bus Station (Rodoviária de Campinas). The trip takes around 2 hours and can be made by the company Viação Caprioli, Lira Bus, from Guarulhos International Airport to Campinas City.

  • At Campinas Bus Station, you will need to take a bus (or taxi) to your hotel.

Airport Transfer

The city of Campinas also has an airport, but only domestic flights and from South America countries.

Sightseeing

If any course participant wishes sightseeing in Rio de Janeiro, before or after the course, there are several direct flights between Campinas and Rio, lasting approximately 40 minutes.

Visa

  • Visitors to Brazil must obtain a visa from one of the Brazilian Embassy or Consulate unless they come from one of the visa exempt countries

  • We strongly recommend you check with your local Brazilian diplomatic mission if you need to apply for a tourist visa beforehand. Important: Bear in mind that you must apply for a visa in advance. It might take some weeks for you to get the visa.
  • You will need a passport valid for at least 6 months before the date you plan to depart to Brazil.

Travel Insurance

  • Participants selected to the event are required to provide (purchase if necessary) travel insurance for their stay in Brazil.
  • You may consider an insurance policy of your choice to protect your interests in relation to cancellations, medical expenses, loss or damage to personal property. The conference organizers cannot take any responsibility for participants failing to arrange their own insurance.

Money Exchange

REAL(R$) is the currency used in Brazil. In Guarulhos or Viracopos Airport it is possible to find some options for exchanging money. In case you are unable to so while at the airport, in Campinas City you can also find exchange offices.
