Description
Increasing the energy of radioactive ion beams can considerably broaden the range of nuclei studied at the Coulomb barrier at REX-ISOLDE. The energy would be upgraded to 2.5 MeV/m then to 3-6 MeV/m using a new design of IH-RFQ structure at 101 MHz and a 7-gap IH resonator at 202 MHz. Moreover, the yield of reactions with radioactive beams can be multiplied by two to three orders of magnitude by adding a recirculator since all charge states leaving the target are recycled with the initial energy (6 MeV/m) but at the cost of a large momentum spread (+20%).
