STATUS REPORT ON STUDIES FOR NEUTRINO FACTORIES

For three years, neutrino beams based on muon decay have raised a considerable interest. Both muon and electron neutrinos can be produced in abundance using an accelerator and storage ring complex called a neutrino factory. Studies of these machines have started in US, Japan and Europe. The physical and technical issues will be compared and the results from theoretical studies and experimental activities presented. The trends in R&D programmes will also be discussed.
