From Madrid Airport (Adolfo Suarez - Barajas) to Madrid City
You can go from Barajas airport to downtown Madrid, aprox. 12 kilometers, by subway, bus or taxi.
By subway ("metro" in Spanish):
Line 8 (pink line in metro map) connects the airport to Madrid City. The end station is "Nuevos Ministerios". The stop "Aeropuerto T1-T2-T3" is within walking distance of terminals T1, T2 and T3. The stop "Aeropuerto T4" is inside terminal 4. Just follow the metro signs.
Once in "Nuevos Ministerios" station (a hub for metro and local trains), to go to your hotel you can change to another metro line or go outside to take a taxi.

From Madrid City to the University (Universidad Autonoma de Madrid, UAM)
The preferred way to go from Madrid city to the university is by local train ("Cercanias" in Spanish). The on-campus train station is called "Cantoblanco Universidad". It is clearly marked in this map, which shows the local-train lines in the Madrid area (the four major stations in Madrid are also highlighted: from South to North, "Atocha", "Sol", "Nuevos Ministerios" and "Chamartin").
In daytime there should be at least one train every ~10 minutes. You should take line C4 direction to
- either "Alcobendas/San Sebastian de los Reyes"
- or "Colmenar Viejo"
- or "Tres Cantos"

Line C4 stops in "Atocha" (main railway station in the center/south of Madrid), "Sol" (a hub for metro and local trains), "Nuevos Ministerios" (a hub for metro and local trains) and Chamartin (main railway station in the North of Madrid). The sequence of stations is: "Atocha", "Sol", "Nuevos Ministerios", "Chamartin", "Fuencarral" and "Cantoblanco Universidad", where you should get down.
For the hotels in "Chamartin" area, the railway station is within walking distance. "Atocha" and "Chamartin" railway stations are the main railway stations of Madrid and have several sections also for long-distance trains. You should look for "Cercanias", which is marked with the sign .
For other hotels, take the metro to either "Atocha Renfe" (metro line 1), "Sol" (metro lines 1 and 3), "Nuevos Ministerios" (metro lines 6, 8 and 10) or "Chamartin" (metro lines 1 and 10) (see metro map). To transfer from metro to local trains follow the "Cercanias"sign .
At the "Cercanias" station you should buy a single ticket (in Spanish "billete de ida" or "billete sencillo", 1.85 Euros) to "Cantoblanco Universidad". You should take a train of line C4 with final destination either "Tres Cantos", "Colmenar Viejo" or "Alcobendas-San Sebastian de los Reyes".
After getting off at "Cantoblanco Universidad" station, it is only a small walk to the venue of the Workshop.

Within the UAM Campus
The venue of the Workshop is "MODULO 0" in the Faculty of Sciences of the Universidad Autonoma de Madrid (UAM). The entrance to the Faculty of Sciences is marked with the number 5 in the map of the UAM campus. The railway station is marked with number 27. After you leave the railway station, walk to your right to find the pedestrian street named "Francisco Tomas y Valiente" and follow it until you reach the entrance to the Faculty of Sciences. This map can help you to go from the railway station to the entrance of the Faculty of Sciences; once you enter into the Faculty, turn right to go to "MODULO 0".
How to reach "Restaurante El Rocio" (social dinner)
The restaurant is located in Madrid downtown. The address is: Calle Ramon de la Cruz 28, Madrid 28001 ("calle" means street in Spanish). The location of the restaurant (marked in green) as well as that of the nearby subway ("metro") stations (marked in red) can be found in this map.
The recommended way to reach the restaurant is by subway ("metro" in Spanish). There are several subway stations nearby; the closest one is "Velazquez".
From the local-train station "Nuevos Ministerios": you should take subway line 10 to "Alonso Martinez" and there switch to subway line 4 to "Velazquez".
From the local-train station "Sol": you should take subway line 2 to "Goya" and there switch to subway line 4 to "Velazquez".
