Places for dinner

Some suggestions for places to have dinner within walking distance - there's a cluster of places towards south kensington and a cluster towards Kensington High Street. These are in no particular order.

- Wright Brothers South Kensington - fish and delicious at that!  - 56 Old Brompton Rd, London SW7 3DY - you may need to book so call them to see: Tel: +44 20 7581 0131

- Comptior Libannias - Lebanese Canteen, good meze, try the fresh lemonades - doesn't take reservations - 1-5 Exhibition Road, London SW7 2HE.

- Zaika - Indian but fine-dining indian rather than post-pub indian. yum - 1 Kensington High St, London W8 5NP. Tel +44 20 7795 6533

- Rocca - perfectly adequate Italian - 73 Old Brompton Rd, London SW7 3JS. Tel : +44 20 7225 3413

- Royal China - dim sum par excellence - other side of the park but well worth the walk - some of my Hong Kong students tell me this is better than at home. Don't take reservations put the place is massive - 13 Queensway, London W2 4QJ.

- Franco Manca - sourdough pizza - v popular - 91 Old Brompton Rd, London SW7 3LD

- Kitchen W8  - british modern/european (1star) some nights of the week it does a fantastic deal before 7pm, 3 course for low twenty something pounds - 11-13 Abingdon Road, London W8 6AH  - as above : Tel: +44 20 7937 0120

- L'etranger - Japanese-influenced French cuisine, plus maki and sashimi - good wine list - 36 Gloucester Rd, London SW7 4QT - as above Tel: +44 20 7584 1118

- The Queens Arms - a pub with food - the hep groups favourite watering hole - 30 Queen's Gate Mews, London SW7 5QL
