The Electroweak Phase Transition in the Minimal SM is known to be an equilibrium crossover. But extended scalar sectors (extra singlet, doublet) may render the transition first order, opening up the possibility of explaining the cosmological baryon asymmetry and providing a cosmological source of gravitational waves.
