Approval of minutes

The minutes of the LIU-PSB WG #209 were approved.

Communications

  • S. Prodon will link the EVM data to the WBS and the information will be complete.
  • D. Carloni will stop his activity in the LIU, and will be replaced by A. Funken. The descriptive documents were presented last Thursday at the Complex Safety Advisory Panel (CSAP). The POPS-B/B245 descriptive document will be continued by A. Funken and will be presented in April at the CSAP.
  • D. Hay will regularly report the status of the LS2 schedule at the LIU-PSB meetings as facility coordinator. He will also organize dedicated meetings to resolve conflicts and/or finalize the details of the planning.
  • The EDMS document with the Linac4 beam specification has been released: https://edms.cern.ch/document/1898179/1.0
  • It is reminded to please attend the ICL meeting to ensure that the design study 3D models are validated by integration, especially if an ECR is needed.

Follow-up of open actions

T. Dobers (2018-02-06): Produce the tilt measurement tool and perform measurements on spare / future magnets.

  • T. Dobers was contacted and reported that the tool will be ready before the summer and that it is foreseen to test it on spare magnets during the summer. Action extended to 2018-05-29.

E. Grenier-Boley (2018-03-06): Report about the status of the beam stopper certification for the 2 GeV operations (BTP.STP10).

  • This topic will be presented at the next meeting. Action extended to 2018-03-20.

I. Efthymiopoulos (2018-02-20): Make a list of starting points of the transfer lines to be sent for approval in an EDMS document.

  • T. Dobers was contacted and reported that the document should be ready by the end of March. Action extended to 2018-04-03.

Report on the LS2 schedule (David Hay)

  • LS2 will start at the PSB in 8 months and the installation activities will begin the 12th November 2018.
  • BE-RF will need to remove equipment from BRF1 and BRF2 in November 2018, including the cabling. This activity is subject to a risk assessment.
  • The BE-RF commissioning will start in November 2019 (week 46). This activity is subject to a risk assessment.
  • There will be a full electrical lock-out from the end of 2018 to November 2019.
  • The current planning is very optimistic since it is not resource loaded and has no contingency plans.

Comments

  • It was discussed that during the removal of the RF equipment in BRF1/BRF2 the cables will just be disconnected. They will be removed in a second stage that needs to be planned.
  • B. Mikulec asked M. Haase if the RF tests in November 2019 could be delayed. M. Haase answered that it needs to be assessed by analyzing the work further. It could potentially be extended into the hardware commissioning period, and done with parallel groups of workers.
  • J. A. Ferreira Somoza asked if the RF commissioning requires vacuum, and D. Hay answered that it does not.
  • D. Hay commented that the timeline presented in Chamonix is to be used as the reference.
  • R. Veness asked if the sharing of resources within groups and across accelerators is taken into account while preparing the schedule. D. Hay replied that at this moment it is not the case. He mainly focuses on the activities in the PSB. B. Mikulec commented that, as the resources are known only within each group, it would be good if the groups themselves could as the first step make sure that they are properly assigned. D. Hay will follow up on this issue during the dedicated meeting he will organize.
  • G. P. Di Giovanni commented that the planning needs to be further specified by starting individual meetings with the equipment groups. It was agreed that D. Hay will follow this up and that the meetings will start with BE-RF, followed by EN-EL.

Transformers: intervention scenarios and spare policy (Davide Aguglia)

  • There are 16 new magnets of two different types in terms of powering (4 magnets BSW1s and 12 magnets BSW2,3,4s) that will need 18 converters (including 2 spares) and 14 pulse transformers (including 2 spares).
  • Any power converter can supply any of the 16 circuits and the 2 spare pulse transformers in the alcove can supply any of the BSW2,3,4s.
  • The transformers for the BSW1s will be installed in the tunnel and not in the new alcove, so the intervention scenarios will be different for each magnet type.
  • In the case of a faulty BSW2,3,4s the full set of converter and transformer will be replaced by a spare set ready to use. The estimated downtime for this operation is of 2h30, the time includes calling the PiPO, the expert acknowledging the issue and then calling the support for the intervention and performing the swap.
  • In the case of a faulty transformer for the BSW1 the transformer will be transported out of the tunnel and replaced, involving a downtime of 1-2 days.
  • In the case of a faulty converter, cable extensions will be used to connect to another converter and the FGC3 dongle will be transferred to keep the circuit parameters. The estimated downtime is of 2h.
  • Faults in transformers are extremely rare.

Comments

  • Concerning the ECR of the installation of the BSW powering W. Weterings commented that the integration study changed. T. Birtwistle said that the ECR should be updated to make sure that integration has the correct model.
  • G. P. Di Giovanni asked if the intervention procedure will be transparent from the controls point of view, since the FGC3 recently gave a few problems with the settings. D. Aguglia answered that the FGC3 dongle will be transferred and the settings will be conserved, by copying from the database.

Final LS2 readiness document

The last version of the document is ready to be released before the cost and schedule review. All open issues were addressed and clarified.

Report on the ECRs for LS2 (Thomas William Birtwistle)

Missing ECRs:

  • TE-ABT: no change.
  • TE-MSC: a meeting will be held next Monday concerning the BT line magnet upgrades.
  • TE-EPC: no change.
  • EN-ACE: currently under approval.
Comments
  • B. Mikulec commented that the ECRs of the BLMs already installed in the ring are missing and should be added. L. Soby will contact C. Zamantzas
  • G. P. Di Giovanni asked about the general status of the currently missing ECRs. T. Birtwistle answered that only the one from EN-CV is to be followed up with G. Petrika.
