Description

The objective of this meeting is to define and launch the WP4 tasks. Each task leader is requested to present the main objectives and activities of the task along with participants (institutes and perhaps even identifying individuals) and if possible some idea of schedule.

Conclusions of the WP4 meeting held on 15 March 2018

Participation: CERN, INFN Frascati, IAT Ankara, IIT Izmir, HIP Helsinki, Strathclyde, Trieste, Uppsala, VDL

1. Each of the task leaders presented an introduction to their task. This included scope, objectives and basic methodology. Overall we seem to be covering well the different aspects of WP4.

2. Task 1 presented results from the EuSPARC design study, which is closely related to what we must do for CompactLight, and represents a very solid starting point. A key question is now to define how we interact with WP6, beam dynamics, especially to get the value of minimum iris aperture which is crucial for all following work.

3. Task 2 will provide industrial perspective guidance in the early stages and will move towards low-cost design, costing and production modeling as the study progresses.

4. Task 3 will now cover both modulators and klystrons since the two systems are closely related and only commercially available solutions will be considered for both. An early objective will be to summarize klystrons and modulators which we can consider.

5. Task 4 will design the power source for the 36 GHz harmonic linearizer, which is one of the options for an all X-band XFEL solution.

6. Task 5 will provide integration design as well as maintain appropriate data for our WP. One key element will be a 3-D solid model of the rf linac unit. An initial version will be produced based on preliminary task 1 parameters and then kept up to date as the design evolves and advances.

7. All WP4 participants are encouraged to now contact the task leaders to define participation in the different tasks. This includes both scientific/technical work and responsibilities as well as the level of resources.

8. The date of the next meeting will be announced shortly.
